Room Leadership

Post by Faustus »

When it comes to leadership of Plains of Turia, the two central pillars I use as a guide are community and transparency. My goal is to ensure that every decision I make is in the best interest of the entire Plains of Turia community that I am trying to build here. To that end, my commitment to all of you is to be open, transparent and receptive to feedback. I am under no illusion that anyone will like or agree with every decision I make (not even myself), that's an impossible standard to try and meet when attempting to create a home that welcomes a wide array of individuals.

It is my belief, however, that an unpopular decision is a lot easier to accept when the underlying reasons for that decision are expressed honestly and openly. If I make an unpopular decision from time to time, that's part of the job. If I make an unpopular decision and none of you understand why? Then I've failed you as a leader, and need to do better. I hope, if I do make those mistakes, you'll challenge me to improve. I own a website and some forums, and my own creativity and writing that went into this project - I do not, and can not own a community of people. Nor can I build such a community alone.

Leadership of Plains of Turia is divided up into two tiers, management & staff:
  • Room Management - the top-tier leadership. Management plans, executes and oversees room storylines and events; writes rules and policies, and enforces/adjudicates them as necessary; makes the final determination regarding membership applications; appoints Room Staff by their own discretion. This is me, and will probably always just be me. Realistically, we're unlikely to ever reach the size or scale of activity that would require additional personnel at this level (I think those days are just over for our hobby, sadly).
  • Room Staff - administrative support. Staff handles a number of administrative tasks, including board moderation and acting as in-room mediators; enforces/adjudicates room rules and policies as necessary; assists with the running of room storylines and events; fields questions, concerns, and otherwise provides assistance to the room membership (and guests) as needed. Room Staff will expand or contract as necessary, based on room activity.
